Spio

Last week Simon got his Spio vest.  I really like it already.  It's a pressure vest and those are really good for exceptional children.  They give a lot of sensory input which is great.  I wanted it for him 1) for support for sitting/standing and 2) for positioning.  He's only just slightly beginning to show some signs of scoliosis, so we want that stopped NOW!

Here is me trying to have Si sit without the vest.

Here is what the vest looks like.  Velcro on...very easily.

You wear it right next to the body.

And here he is sitting with the suit.

See how much straighter his back is?

I think it's a HUGE difference.  We were lucky insurance covered this for us (more to come on that), but if you had to pay out-of-pocket, these are quite inexpensive.  (For special needs items!!)

Plus Darla at Spioworks.org has been so awesome!

Wow! That does make a big difference! Glad insurance covered it for him, too!

I think this is amazing. It really will help him over time to improve his own muscle strength and sit up properly by himself. Lucy slumps a bit, and I'm kind of wondering if this would help with her....?

"Motherhood is about raising and celebrating the child you have, not the child you thought you would have. It's about understanding that he is exactly the person he is supposed to be. And that, if you're lucky, he just might be the teacher who turns you into the person you are supposed to be." ~The Water Giver~

A prayer

Lord,

Please help me remember that Your love is always greater than my disappointments and Your plans for my life are always better than my dreams.

Amen.
